Hugh Lowe Farm’s early variety of strawberry to hit shelves this week!

Hugh Lowe Farms, one of the leading strawberry growers in the UK, picked, packed and sent out its first deliveries to shops this month of its first strawberries; a variety which originates from Kent.

Says Managing Director of Hugh Lowe Farms Marion Regan, “It’s always exciting when the first crop hits the shelves, it feels like summer really is just around the corner.

“This first crop is an early variety called ‘Malling Centenary’, which has its roots in Kent. It was originally raised as a seedling locally by strawberry breeders at East Malling Research station.

“The quintessential summer fruit, English strawberries are so full of flavour and natural sweetness and these are no exception this year.”

Find Hugh Lowe Farms strawberries in local stores, independent farm shops and major retailers (look for Marion Regan under the grower). Serve with yogurt or top off your cereals for an antioxidant fuelled breakfast, decorate and elevate a Victoria Sponge or Cheesecake or enjoy with clotted cream and scones, for a Kentish twist on teatime treats.

Hugh Lowe Farms is a family run soft fruit farm established over 125 years ago located in Mereworth in Kent, the Garden of England. The farm produces over 5,000 tonnes of fresh berries a year between April and November.
